Riding the Second Wave: Keanu Reeves’ Action Masterpiece ‘Point Break’ Returns
By Sapphire Editorial Team | Published April 30, 2026
At the Sapphire Movie Channel, the 1991 cult classic Point Break has always been more than just a heist movie—it’s a visual anthem for the adrenaline-fueled and the brave. Today, we have the official confirmation our audience has been waiting for: a sequel series is targeting a 2027 debut on AMC.
During the AMC Global Media upfronts, Chief Content Officer Dan McDermott revealed that the project is moving at high velocity. “We’ve got a great script,” McDermott shared, noting that production is expected to begin late this year or early 2027 in the stunning landscapes of Australia.
The 35-Year Evolution
This new chapter takes place three and a half decades after the original film. While the legendary chemistry between Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze can never be replicated, the new series promises to honor their legacy by following a dangerous new heist crew with mysterious ties to the original “Ex-Presidents”.
The project is in the expert hands of David Kalstein (known for Butterfly and Treadstone), who will serve as writer and executive producer. After the lackluster reception of the 2015 remake, AMC is taking a strategic “immortal” approach—the same method that turned Interview with the Vampire into a multi-season triumph.
