NEW ORLEANS — Libra Times Entertainment Desk — The Overlook Film Festival has announced the audience and jury prize winners for its 2026 edition, closing out another year of strong turnout for the New Orleans-based event, which remains one of the leading showcases dedicated to horror cinema.

Held April 9 through April 12, the festival welcomed 96 filmmaker guests and drew more than 8,000 attendees across 25 sold-out screenings and events, underscoring the continued momentum behind genre-driven festivals and the audience appetite for horror storytelling on both independent and larger scales.

Among this year’s winners were Never After Dark and Obsession, titles that emerged as standouts in a lineup shaped by psychological unease, inventive direction, and audience engagement. The awards, which include both jury-selected honors and audience-voted prizes, are seen as a key marker of breakout potential within the horror space.

Overlook has steadily grown into one of the genre’s most closely watched festival platforms, offering filmmakers a high-visibility environment while giving audiences early access to some of the year’s most anticipated horror releases. Its positioning has helped bridge the gap between cult discovery and broader industry recognition.

The strong attendance figures also point to the continued vitality of in-person festival culture, particularly for horror, where communal viewing remains central to the experience. In an era of fragmented attention and streaming-first consumption, Overlook’s sold-out events suggest that the appetite for shared theatrical energy remains firmly intact.

As the festival marks its 10th annual edition, this year’s winners are likely to gain increased visibility among distributors, programmers, and genre audiences watching closely for the next breakout title.
