‘Soul Patrol’ Takes Top Doc Honor at Sarasota Film Festival

SARASOTA — The documentary “Soul Patrol”, directed by J.M. Harper, took home the top nonfiction honor at the 28th annual Sarasota Film Festival, marking a significant moment for the film following its premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

The film tells the story of the first all-Black special forces unit during the Vietnam War, bringing long-overdue attention to a chapter of history often overlooked in mainstream narratives.

“We are so honored to receive this award,” said producer Sam Bisbee, reflecting on the recognition and the continued impact of the documentary.

With its festival momentum building, “Soul Patrol” is quickly emerging as a standout in this year’s documentary circuit, drawing attention for both its historical depth and emotional resonance.
